The Gifted Education Programme (GEP) is an enrichment programme designed to nurture intellectually gifted students to realize their fullest potential. It was introduced in 1984 by the Ministry of Education (MOE) as part of reforms to create an education system that caters to diverse talents and learning aptitudes.
Gifted
pupils would follow the regular curriculum and take the same examinations
as those in the mainstream, but with additional subjects, greater depth of
coverage and exposure to varied learning experiences such as project work
and field trips.
The process
of identifying pupils for the GEP involved a series of special tests at the end
of Primary 3. Selection begins in August when Primary 3 pupils sit for an
initial screening test of 100 questions that assessed their quantitative
reasoning, reading comprehension and vocabulary. The top 5% of the cohort,
will go on to take a selection examination comprising three papers that
test their language, numerical and general abilities at a higher difficulty
level. The best 5% will then subsequently chosen for the GEP.
In short, you need to be in the top 0.25% of the cohort to be chosen for the Gifted Education Programme (1 out of 400 Primary 3 students who sit for the GEP examinations).

He was not selected for GEP programme after the second screening test. That's fine. I can groom him myself too. : )
