How a primary 3 student solve the 6x PSLE 2021 Mathematics questions?

I asked my boy (Primary 3) to solve the 6x PSLE 2021 Mathematics questions.

He got 4x out of 6x correct by himself and 2x with my help initially at the start. Thereafter, he was able to complete the question correctly too. : )

In total, I gave him 80% marks for the 6x PSLE 2021 questions.

As for the famous Helen and Ivan question,  he got it correct! His way of solving was kind of interesting.

Below were his works for the first 5x questions.

He needs to learn how to present his procedures properly/neatly/clearly.
He has 2+ years to improve on presentation.

This is the number 6th question, which he got it right too. Not bad. :) Good thinking.

All the answers below were taken from Maths Heuristics

You can watch all the 6x video clips at their Facebook page link below. They are very good videos, showing the steps by steps procedure to the answer.

Good learning for everyone!

In short, these questions are not difficult.
They are unique, tricky but do-able.
I have seen much more challenging questions at the school test papers.

Primary 4 Mathematics: Modeling topic (14x questions from year 2018 SA1/SA2 papers)

Singapore MOE is very proud of their mathematics modeling , which I do not understand why. The modeling can be solved by algebra sometimes. I also heard many good primary school students in mathematics meet difficulties in secondary school as they could not understand the algebra logic. That is very dangerous. I think they probably did too many modeling questions in primary school until their brain cannot switch or comprehend the simple algebra. I teach both concepts to my boy. Don’t worry, it will not confuse them.  He is going to finish all 32x test papers of Primary 4 (left 3x more papers). I hand-picked 14x nice modeling questions from the year 2018 SA1/SA2 test questions that he had completed. He got about 70% right. These 14x questions are very good questions for Primary 4 students. If you can get them all correct, your standard is, surely and definitely in the range of 95%-100%. You probably wonder why I only show the modeling questions of Primary 4 but...

Primary 5 Report Card

There is a saying, your Primary 5 "End-of-year Examination" result will be your PSLE results.   If that's true, his PSLE Score will be AL 9. That's not good. He will not be able to get into his dream school, Anglo Chinese School (Independent) . Hence, he needs to work smart/hard towards his goal. I set a target for him. AL 6 (P) shall be. Nevertheless, I am pleased to know he was selected again for Higher Chinese class in Primary 6. Good job! Please at least get a "PASS" grade!    Primary 5 Achievements: Primary 5: CCA Captain , represented school at National School Games Table Tennis Senior Boys Team - League 1 & National School Games Table Tennis Senior Division Boys (Team). Primary 5: Recipient of Char Yong Scholarship 2023 for Top P4 Academic Award 2022. Primary 5:  Recipient of Edusave Scholarship 2024  for Top 10% of P5 Cohort 2023. Primary 5: Merit Award at Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest (RIPMWC)-Junior Category. Primary ...

PSLE AL 5 M + S$2,400 yearly scholarships

My boy met my expectation precisely.  AL 5 M  ! Surprisingly, he also received the scholarships letter together with the PSLE certificate.  It is a Edusave scholarships for Independant Schools (ESIS),  S$2,400 per year for 6 years .  This is a surprise bonus!  We were told only AL 4 and 5 students received such scholarships (Singaporean students only). With AL 5, you basically can choose any secondary schools you like. However, he had fixed his eyes at  ACS(I) . It's only 10 minutes journey, direct bus from our home. IP (Year 1 to Year 4) school fees: S$385 x 12 months x 4 =  S$18,480 IBDP (Year 5 to Year 6) school fees: S$500 x 12 months x 2 =  S$12,000 Total 6 years of school fees:  S$30,480 Scholarships (for 6 years): S$2,400 x 6 =  S$14,400 Net ACS(I) secondary school fees for 6 years:  S$16,080 My job is officially done.  Woo Hoo!! I am happy!!!
