Sports exploration

We try to let him exploring all kinds of different sports.

(1) Swimming

We sent him for swimming class at very young age and he had mastered it now. It's about S$20 per session. I personally think this is an important sport to know/learn.

(2) Badminton
(3) Basketball
(4) Futsal

We sent him for badminton, basketball and futsal camp (ActiveSG program) during the school holidays.

(5) Cycling

After one session of cycling boot camp during the school holiday, he had mastered the cycling too. It is nice to cycle along the PCN with us! You can get a decent bicycle with good price at Decathlon!

(6) Ice-skating
He went for ice-skating classes at JCube during the school holidays. Good exposure.

(7) Marathon

He completed a simple 5KM marathon run.

(8) Bowling

Just for fun!

(9) Volleyball
Last but not least, that's his primary 3 CCA! Qi Fa primary school is very good in volleyball.

Primary 4 Mathematics: Modeling topic (14x questions from year 2018 SA1/SA2 papers)

Singapore MOE is very proud of their mathematics modeling , which I do not understand why. The modeling can be solved by algebra sometimes. I also heard many good primary school students in mathematics meet difficulties in secondary school as they could not understand the algebra logic. That is very dangerous. I think they probably did too many modeling questions in primary school until their brain cannot switch or comprehend the simple algebra. I teach both concepts to my boy. Don’t worry, it will not confuse them. He is going to finish all 32x test papers of Primary 4 (left 3x more papers). I hand-picked 14x nice modeling questions from the year 2018 SA1/SA2 test questions that he had completed. He got about 70% right. These 14x questions are very good questions for Primary 4 students. If you can get them all correct, your standard is, surely and definitely in the range of 95%-100%. You probably wonder why I only show the modeling questions of Primary 4 but not other topics.

Primary 5 Report Card

There is a saying, your Primary 5 "End-of-year Examination" result will be your PSLE results. If that's true, his PSLE Score will be AL 9. That's not good. He will not be able to get into his dream school, Anglo Chinese School (Independent) . Hence, he needs to work smart/hard towards his goal. I set a target for him. AL 6 (P) shall be. Nevertheless, I am pleased to know he was selected again for Higher Chinese class in Primary 6. Good job! Please at least get a "PASS" grade! PSLE Cut Off Points (COP) (Revision 03)

Revision 03 (last paragraph): updated on December 22, 2023. Revision 02: updated on December 22, 2022. PSLE COP for year 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 were shown below. My child is a boy. We target the three secondary schools below, but his PSLE will be in year 2024 instead. New PSLE scoring system was introduced in year 2021. Based on 2021 PSLE COP, the sure-in scores required for the 4 schools below are: (1) Raffles Institution: AL 6 (P) (2) Hwa Chong: AL 7 (D) - for info/benchmark only. (3) Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) Independent: AL 7 (P) (4) River Valley High School: AL 8 (P) In conclusion: (1) AL 4 & 5 can choose Raffles Institution . AL 6 can be risky. (2) AL 6 can choose ACS . AL 7 can be risky. (3) AL 7 can choose River Valley High . AL 8 can be risky. (4) AL 8 shall check other high schools too. Let's see if such strategy works for the PSLE COP for year 2022.
