Primary 5 & 6 Higher Chinese (高级华文)

Many Singaporean kids are afraid of Chinese language, not to mention Higher Chinese.
That will be a nightmare for them.

You can still survive well in Singapore even though you are not good in Chinese language but it is an advantage if you can master or good in Chinese language especially while you are working with China/Taiwan counterparts. I had the opportunities to have a close working relationship with Suzhou/Shanghai colleagues and even had a direct reporting boss stationed at Suzhou for 3 years. That was the time I truly appreciate why mastering in Chinese language is a good thing to have!

Back to Primary 5 & 6 Higher Chinese.

I particularly like the Higher Chinese Paper 2, Section B (one example was shown below).

That is one section to confuse and test the student's ability to know what shall be the right word to be applied in the sentence.

I just love it. I love it so much until I completed total 95x Higher Chinese test papers. Not him but me (of course la, he is still in Primary 2).
The first photo had shown all the phrases tested for year 2019 Primary 5 and 6 Higher Chinese.

This blog will showcase the words, the phrases that most of the elite schools would love to test on the students at Primary 5 and Primary 6 levels. There are total 475 phrases here. You can see some very popular, famous phrases appeared multiple times at different school tests.

For those who sit for Higher Chinese PSLE examination, it is a must to know all these phrases shown in this blog. This is one section that you need to score full in marks (only 10% in paper 2) and leave "room" for the mark to be deducted in Chinese essay writing.

Below are the phrases tested for year 2017/2018,  Primary 5 and 6 Higher Chinese.

There is no short-cut in language learning.
You just need to speak more, listen more, write more, read more and perhaps more practices!

The good news is there are so many FREE resources (e.g. past year test papers) available on the Internet for you to learn/practise. I literally opened all the 95x test papers from the website below and completed the questions. Then I had shared these information in this blog. This is for my own record keeping too.

Students, you should do the same!

These are the words I would expect my son to know by the time he reaches Primary 4/5 in 2 years time.

Have fun learning Chinese language!

Primary 4 Mathematics: Modeling topic (14x questions from year 2018 SA1/SA2 papers)

Singapore MOE is very proud of their mathematics modeling , which I do not understand why. The modeling can be solved by algebra sometimes. I also heard many good primary school students in mathematics meet difficulties in secondary school as they could not understand the algebra logic. That is very dangerous. I think they probably did too many modeling questions in primary school until their brain cannot switch or comprehend the simple algebra. I teach both concepts to my boy. Don’t worry, it will not confuse them.  He is going to finish all 32x test papers of Primary 4 (left 3x more papers). I hand-picked 14x nice modeling questions from the year 2018 SA1/SA2 test questions that he had completed. He got about 70% right. These 14x questions are very good questions for Primary 4 students. If you can get them all correct, your standard is, surely and definitely in the range of 95%-100%. You probably wonder why I only show the modeling questions of Primary 4 but...

Primary 5 Report Card

There is a saying, your Primary 5 "End-of-year Examination" result will be your PSLE results.   If that's true, his PSLE Score will be AL 9. That's not good. He will not be able to get into his dream school, Anglo Chinese School (Independent) . Hence, he needs to work smart/hard towards his goal. I set a target for him. AL 6 (P) shall be. Nevertheless, I am pleased to know he was selected again for Higher Chinese class in Primary 6. Good job! Please at least get a "PASS" grade!    Primary 5 Achievements: Primary 5: CCA Captain , represented school at National School Games Table Tennis Senior Boys Team - League 1 & National School Games Table Tennis Senior Division Boys (Team). Primary 5: Recipient of Char Yong Scholarship 2023 for Top P4 Academic Award 2022. Primary 5:  Recipient of Edusave Scholarship 2024  for Top 10% of P5 Cohort 2023. Primary 5: Merit Award at Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest (RIPMWC)-Junior Category. Primary ...

PSLE AL 5 M + S$2,400 yearly scholarships

My boy met my expectation precisely.  AL 5 M  ! Surprisingly, he also received the scholarships letter together with the PSLE certificate.  It is a Edusave scholarships for Independant Schools (ESIS),  S$2,400 per year for 6 years .  This is a surprise bonus!  We were told only AL 4 and 5 students received such scholarships (Singaporean students only). With AL 5, you basically can choose any secondary schools you like. However, he had fixed his eyes at  ACS(I) . It's only 10 minutes journey, direct bus from our home. IP (Year 1 to Year 4) school fees: S$385 x 12 months x 4 =  S$18,480 IBDP (Year 5 to Year 6) school fees: S$500 x 12 months x 2 =  S$12,000 Total 6 years of school fees:  S$30,480 Scholarships (for 6 years): S$2,400 x 6 =  S$14,400 Net ACS(I) secondary school fees for 6 years:  S$16,080 My job is officially done.  Woo Hoo!! I am happy!!!
